A year or two back, when a buddy and I were super immersing ourselves into Eckart Tolle (Practicing the Power of Now) style behavioral/mental modification (lol), we found ourselves listening to Tolle on our drives to the club, or whatever activity we had going on that day. A headphone bud in one ear, listening to the radio or talking to each other at the same time. Even when I was by myself I’d have Tolle on in my headphones, and be listening to music out of my car speakers. Neither one loud enough to interfere with each other, but Tolle definitely audible enough to listen to what was being said.
It taught me that level of inner stillness and peace, even while being immersed in a “club” environment, i.e. loud club-type music playing in the background, or having a conversation with someone. (It had NOTHING to do with becoming a british hobgoblin with a monotonous voice.. rather with being centered and staying on my own mental flow even when faced with completely contradictory external mental stimuli)
The benefits were huge.
Just tonight I was outside walking around my buddy’s condominium complex, having realized I’d forgotten to take care of something right before I went to sleep. Walking around outside taking care of business, I realized I’d left my earplugs in (I sleep with earplugs). Completely alone with my thoughts, my “awareness” of the external realm completely dimmed by my plugs, (and by the sense of my normal sensory experience being out of wack, and therefore of lessened importance) I became more closely aware of my internal thoughts, my sense of being, and my current mental “loops”. It developed into its own self-actualizing, centering experience for me.
Try it with your regular meditation practices, you might like it.
Just something to think about.. : )

Manwhore is the dude that inspires me most in this game.
Soo, walk around with ear buds and focus on your own thoughts.
I’ve felt that a few times but not from tolle. What audio do you recommend and how do I get it? I tried tolle a long time ago but didn’t like it, maybe I’d appreciate his wisdom nowadays.
Hey dude. Get ahold of Practicing The Power of Now. That’s the one I listen to exclusively.
Cheers
Got it, thx man
Because of you I listen to the Power of Now and also A New Earth. It’s weird, for reading I liked A New Earth better but for the audio it’s vice versa. It was kind of rough listening to Tolle for me because he’s not engaging to me like listening to Tyler on the blueprint or other personal development speakers. But I remember your under21 talk where you talk about inner game and doing two things:
1. Handling shit in your life
2. Listening to power of now
And, well, I take what you say seriously, so I kept listening to it. I listen to a lot of different programs and I notice in my life when I’m going through a phase of listening to Power of Now I am more present.. and just connected to my own power. Definitely will check out Practicing Power of Now. Is that the one you always listened to?
And I will also add that since my verbal game could use improvement… my game is almost entirely just my presence (with positive physical dominance and leading).. girls don’t get that from a lot of guys.. and well they love it.
Yep. Practicing the Power of Now. Easily the best audio to listen to
Too much verbal game can end up being a trap, though it is definitely useful at times
What do u mean when u say that verbal game can end up being a trap?
It can end up becoming in your mind the value you give girls. i.e. you won’t approach unless you have something good to say, you won’t plow or escalate unless you have something good to say, etc.
you like power of now or new earth better?
I listen to Practicing the Power of Now a lot.
I’m gonna check out this power of now stuff. Sounds good. Also, I really liked when you used the term “inner stillness” Awesome concept man, love it. I was reading some Buddhist material where it talked about how one cannot see their reflection in rushing water. So in order to reflect back to a woman, you need to have that deep inner stillness… Or something like that anyways, good post man I’m digging this blog!
Hey Manwhore,
Are there any ideas in Eckhart’s teachings like practicing the power of now that you disagree with? I can’t really give specifics but seeing as you have gone through it, maybe you could tell me some things you have objectively decided are not in congruence with how you view life?
Could you please answer for me as well what your thoughts are on the purpose of life? Would you say it is about feeling good all the time, enjoying the moment, doing exactly what you love to do with the people you love to do it with? I am also an objective guy who does not just blindly follow something, but I greatly respect your point of view and would like to know what you believe in this regard.
Why are you LOOKING for things to disagree with? That is incredibly unsmart.
Focus on what DOES work. What doesn’t have value will not stick so no need to worry. Practicing the Power of Now has really nothing I disagree with.
The purpose of life is to work hard and grow and to do as much as you can. And to not procrastinate or trade short term superficial rewards for long-term gains and rewards.
