damn. this was really uncalibrated.
a girl i met a while ago (never hooked up) texted me about some gallery show and i'm a member and get in free, so i suggested she join me after work.
on the day she flaked, working late so i sent
ME 4.07pm "no worries. i can take someone else"
HER 4.10pm "Boo! send me photos i bet it'll be amazing"
ignore. i went with a buddy. it was actually very cool
HER 11.13pm "How was it? x"
ME 10.44 am (next day) "very cool. parts were amazing. and i love the river at night"
HER 11.15am "send me a photo!x"
ME 11.40am "Little girls who don't say please do not get treats"
HER 11.41 am "Now."
i ignore this. could've replied in a playful way but just couldn't be bothered. move on
a week or so goes by then i get this
HER 8.21pm "You still haven't sent me any pictures of the show :) x"
quite sweet, so send her a pic and text "here you go pumpkin, a little taster"
HER 11pm "So amazing!! I really want to go :( x"
so next morning (this morning) i text her and i figure i'll cut the shit and go for another meet up as she's acting interested
ME 09.37am "There's still time.. anyway, this texting stuff's getting too nerdy for me, duck. Let's grab a drink" (credit this forum)
HER 12.18pm "Nerdy? Jen keeps texting me.. x"
Jen is a girl and a needy mutual acquaintance of ours.
so here's where i go all miscalibrated and basically tell her to stop texting me..
ME 2.15pm "My point exactly! Texting's for the socially inept. Let's converse face to face like the semi grown ups we are"
no response.
So i was referring to the girl "Jen" as the socially inept texter etc and i thought it was quite funny but now i read it back it sounds like i'm saying "people who text are not cool. good luck contacting me now"
ha! shit. oh well. i don't want to explain myself as i feel it would be weak but maybe i'm wrong. was planning to rengage in a few days like nothing happened.
but input and sage advice is most welcome fellas, as always.

I don't think it was necessarily "bad", I think you were just impatient and not persistent enough, and flexible enough to figure out how to get her out. E.g. maybe drinks isn't a good idea, but ice cream or coffee is. Or take her to the next showing of that same event she flaked on the first time? This girl is obviously interested

definitely all those things. too often i won't read the situation and i'll just follow my expectation.
like "don't wait too long to go for a meet up" "escalate" "i've asked now let's get this done" "if she's not enthusiastically interested immediately. next!" etc and fall victim to impatience and inflexibility.
i could definitely see that show again, but yeah, the bigger lesson is to not give in to dogma or frustration.
i'll re-engage in a couple of days and see what's up.

For me it's a bit too close to being super reactive if you don't have that separation. I am happy to be persuaded that i've misunderstood.
