Any ideas on how to contest a parking ticket?
My car got towed the other night and the fine is exorbitant. My cab driver said he contested a ticket/towing fee by pretending he was the manager of the CVS he was parked at overnight and that the owner was a new employee and didn't know better.
Mine was parked on the street but just curious if any of you creative minds have any ideas lol
Thanks guys!
Why did it get towed? Unpaid tickets?

Good luck getting your car/money back from the tow company tho. The best and only thing to do is to get it out ASAP. They usually charge $20/day plus or minus for "storage."
Yeah getting towed is a bitch.
Well who had the authority to tow it? That's how I contested mine and got my money back. But yes generally tow companies are pieces of shit it's why they have heavy glass windows because they are crooks and genuinely screw a lot of people over.
Wow appreciate it guys. Damn Infinity you've really done your homework on this.
I read your post and I feel like it would literally take me a few days of research and practice to even feel remotely confident in my ability to motion and get through the hearing without looking like an asshole.
Don't know if I have the patience for all that, but I feel like I should as a matter of principle, jeeze.
Definitely didn't expect such a thorough response.
If you want, pm me and I'll help you do what you need to do if I can. Give me details
Or just post it in the thread. Unless Alex is worried about us finding out about the gay porn collection the cops found in his trunk
Just so you know, if they towed your car based on unpaid tickets that have already been sentenced, there's nothing anyone can do for you. You're shit outa luck and just have to take it to get your car back
Parking tickets are nothing less than modern day tyranny. Just an excuse to seperate you from your money. And if you don't pay, they take your $12000 car over a few hundred dollars. How does that work?
Very funny Manwhore.
No it wasn't unpaid tickets. Apparently I read the sign wrong. I parked on residential parking right by a club I went to on Saturday. When I was ready to leave my car was gone. Thats really what happened. It's just ridiculous after having a $270 towing fee that they are also slapping a $70 ticket on top of it.
I thought about telling them I promote at the club, and my boss told me to park out back- that I'm new in town (true) and see if I could get some sympathy points that way
What's adding up to $270?
I've also forced a towing company to lower the fees because each city sets limits on what a towing company can charge but they will still go over if they can get away with it.
^^Hm. That's clever manwhore.
So wait. How did they serve the citation if they towed the car, alex?
Also, they can't just tow your car on a citation, unless there's a good reason (theoretically), like public safety, or you're parked on MARKED private property. Otherwise that's grand theft auto, the tow company is liable for criminal/civil charges in that case.
Depending on what the circumstances actually are, you may be able to get your car out by threatening legal action, if they had no reason to tow it. Definitely look into that, and possibly get a lawyer to take a look. Judging by what you've said they shouldn't have towed you, regardless of whether you're guilty of a parking infraction or not.
Hmm interesting.
Here's what they are serving me:
The ticket plus tow fee adds up to $347 total. The $270 is just for towing
For instance the "per day" charge is bullshit since they had my car no more than an hour and a half. Offence time was 11:24 and I left the club at 1Am
I got my car out that night at 1AM just to be clear. Would have caused a whole bunch more hassle to have to take cabs everywhere
Can you write out the section where it says "In violation of section: LAMC #####"
I think it says 80.69B but it's tough to see.
Also, exactly what it says in the "comments"
Yeah it's 80.69B.
The comments are: UA NA SP TA NP 11PM-6AM
...the Department is hereby authorized to install at any such place signs giving notice that no person shall stand, stop or park a vehicle except as provided on such signs. The Department is further authorized to include notice on any sign which prohibits the stopping or parking of vehicles, that vehicles parked or left standing in violation of such sign may be removed.
(b) Parking Prohibited. Whenever authorized signs are in place giving notice that parking, as defined in Section 463 of the California Vehicle Code, is prohibited at any time or during certain hours, it shall be unlawful for any person to park any vehicle during such prohibited times, except as provided in Section 88.01.1 of this chapter.

Gawdammit. So yeah, they basically have given themselves the power to "remove" your car.
So there are two kinds of defenses PROCEDURAL and SUBSTANTIAL.
What that means is:
Can you prove that the officer made a procedural error (wrote the wrong year, make or model, cited the wrong city code, for example)
Can you prove that there is an error in the substance of the case (you weren't there, you couldn't see the sign, that wasn't your car etc.)
It looks like they dotted their t's and crossed their i's tho, man. I mean you can go in there and try to use some of the tricks from my post, but you're in for a very tough battle. You may want to check up on what Manwhore said and see if there are limits on how much the tow company can charge you.
Vehicle release fee sounds like bullshit. The tow fee seems exorbitant as well pretty sure the max in Cali is $75
Yah, considering they towed it 4 miles $120 is ri-fuckin-diculous!
Both of my towing fees were $260 and $230, respectively. Crazy what they get away with
