Any law students here?
Long story short there are these two kids in my town that robbed my friends house (estimated over $7000). I used to be pretty tight with these kids actually, and I remember them telling me they did it. I also witnessed them steal some shit from another kids house. They are some serious fuckheads.
The whole investigation has been an ongoing thing, five kids includng myself have spoke to the cops about it. I just heard that they are going to court. Is there anything else I can do to strengthen the case? Should I be writing a letter and what not?...They are 18 now but all the crimes were commited when they were 17, will they be charged as adults?
One kids a sociopath (for real), and the other kid has pretty much been minipulated into commiting all these crimes
Well talk to the people going to court and see what their plan is. Start there, need more details
Alright, you have to decide if implicating yourself in this is worth the time and effort. Make damn sure because if you decide to be a witness it could be quite a long process.
You're probably pretty upset about your friend which is understandable. But you gotta pick your battles so just make sure it's worth it.

Yeah this is what I was thinking. I'm already in pretty deep tho, they know I talked to the cops, and one my buddies beat the fuck out of one of them. So there is no friendly relationship anymore lol
You can make an official statement with your signature on it stating what you know with your signature on it. You don't necessarily have to be a witness as the statement itself can simply be an exhibit to strengthen the case. I.E. Have your buddies attorney depose you and then you go on the record stating all this. It would help if everyone who heard these kids bragging about this would hop on board the statement. Although I'll be quick to say that making that statement isn't really that strong. And obviously refrain from kicking their asses since you've already taken this to court since that will lead to further law suits / your friends in juvi or jail.
Oh yeah Aquitas aren't you heading into law school soon?

well my buddy who got robbed took it to court. and apparently the insurance company is filing a law suit as well.
They are trying to charge them for home invasion which sounds serious
Home invasion, breaking and entering, trespassing, etc.
I would stay informed on the situation but let the professionals handle it. You don't wanna get mixed up in some legal process that isn't directly related to you, especially since you're graduating soon (this month right?).
One of the only things I picked up from my Business Law class this semester is to keep your mouth shut lol. You would be SHOCKED how many people implicate or incriminate themselves because they don't know how to talk to cops or lawyers. It's within your legal rights to not say anything at all.
I was working on a transcription the other day where a woman was in court suing a major bank for cutting her long term disability and then subsequently firing her. The judge presiding over the case questioned her briefly and then asked if she had anything else to add. She then went on a weird, desparate tirade where she simply repeated everything she had already said and also brought up completely irrelevant details that made the judge say "Okay....well I don't see how that helps your case AT ALL...." Lol. The best thing to do is clearly point out the facts and then be quiet.
Did you decide where you're going to college yet Meow?

I'm a junior year right now bro, so I got another year (im 18 in a month tho). However, I'm most likely applying early decision at Springfield College, MA, so I need to have all my application in by September.
Your defintely right about keeping my mouth shut, these are the kind of kids to try and drag me into it somehow. They actually told one kid that was very loosely involved (I think they had him pawn some of the shit, but he had no clue where it came from) that if they get in trouble he is going down with them.
