Collected Wisdom/Quotes from Dune

"Deep in the human unconscious is a pervasive need for a logical universe that makes sense. But the real universe is always one step beyond logic."

"Many have marked the speed with which Muad'Dib learned the necessities of Arrakis. The Bene Gesserit, of course, know the basis of this speed. For the others, we can say that Muad'Dib learned rapidly because his first training was in how to learn. And the first lesson of all was the basic trust that he could learn. It's shocking to find how many people do not believe they can learn, and how many more believe learning to be difficult. Muad'Dib knew that every experience carries its lesson." --from "The Humanity of Muad'Dib" by the Princess Irulan
“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
-- The Litany Against Fear
That first one though- damn.
Bump. This is an incredibly insightful novel. This should be the companion guide to the coaching program pretty much.
"The mind can go either direction under stress--- toward positive or toward negative: on or off. Think of it as a spectrum whose extremes are unconsciousness at the negative end and hyperconsciousness at the positive end. The way the mind will lean under stress is trongly influenced by training"
Uggh you're right. This is definitely one of the most important books out there for guys to read.
Dune is a book? How come I have never heard of this. The first one is amazing, because it's so fucking true. You put greatness in the hands of man who is unready and it will destroy him. The second one is beautiful as well. Sounds like I have to read this
I can't believe I didn't include the Litany Against Fear in this post. Edited/added for greatness
Brb, going to read this book
It's actually fiction. One of the best ever
i've heard about it before, just didn't know it contained that gold. is the movie worth the watch? or the 5 fucking sequels lol
Looks like the guy who has the movie rights is just waiting for the right oppurtunity. Movie would be pretty cool
The original is worth watching for sure. Plus it has Sting in it
Truth.

Dune is certainly one of the best sci-fis ever written. Well recommended read.
