Did anyone watch the new live action version of Beauty & The Beast?
Featuring Emma Watson.
What'd you think of it? What'd you think of the "romance" between her and the beast? Thx
The romance there was benign; here, it’s alive with forlorn longing. Which is to say, the new “Beauty and the Beast” is not as kid-friendly a movie.
Damn right I did.
In the beginning when she "rescues" her father by self sacrificing herself to the vicious monster, the darkness, the beast/force of nature. Made me think of the psychology or if you want a more abstract term, the intrigue of a woman to plunge herself into chaos in order to come to terms with it, even tame it. Call it foolishness if you will.
I was actually theorizing afterwards that "what if" she didn't lock herself up to save her father, but for her own selfish curiosity. Who is this angry beast? "My little village is boring. No one accepts me. I'm different, atleast I want to be different. Whom is this creature I've never seen or heard of? Not to mention, being caged up that way to a dominant agressive beast is hardcore submission. Emma Watson's panties were soaked in that scene most likely. This actually happens again when she tries to touch the rose behind the glass case almost dooming them all (*cough *cough - Adam and Eve anyone?). Complete lack of regard of the consequences, pure mystery and excitement.
Then you have the village hero who is needy as fuck towards this girl who doesn't give a shit about him cause he's self-centered, un-intelligent, and really a fuckboy essentially lol. All woman love him but not this girl, she sees past the facade. And ofcourse she was right, he had his own selfish motives for her, thinks too highly of himself to a fault and is sadistic. He may be a warrior but he's a boy at heart.
Next up, and my favorite of all, the BEAST. He plays the nortorious male archetype that woman crave. The dark and aggressive lone wolf. The bad boy. He's dominant, doesn't give a fuck, is enraptured in himself, his life, his goals and ambitions. But. He has a soft heart hidden from the world. It's deep inside him and you bet your ass Emma Watson wants to uncover it, tame it, then put it in her mouth. The story that woman crave because it hits them on all levels of their biology. The strong masculine man, lives in a palace, away from the world yet still towers above it in his own way. Independent and consumed by his goals, driven you could say. Wealth, strength, intellect etc.
She yearns to nurture this kind of man, support him, be by his side through thick and thin. Find out more about him and his darkness. Be enveloped by it and contort it, be at odds with it and absorb it. Change him and be changed by him.
You then have the beast finally show a part of himself when he rescues the princess from the wolves, showing that he does actually care about her, more than he would like to let on. The beast is then injured and she can take care of him and nurse him back to health lol. His soft endearing side starts to come out and she views him in a different life. She feels like she's earning him, working hard for him in order to open him up. You also have lots of polarity where they argue.
So then begins the process of flirting. They argue, they tease eachother, he's goofy and silly but still strong and capable. He impresses her with his library and shows that he's civilized and smart as fuck. Oh but he's nonchalant about it all. Displaying excellence without trying. He has lots of quirks which society would deem "low value" or "weird" but she likes them because they're unique to him. Like when he was eating his soup with his mouth lol.
They start to teach eachother stuff about themselves. Opening up to eachother naturally. She helps him cope with being a beast and he uncovers stuff about her past and shows her the place where her mother died in a grand joy ride where she places her hand on a map to take them there. They grow closer and closer to one another as he shows her a "whole new world" so to speak. His world.
And you have a PIVOTAL moment happen in the movie towards the end. This girl is the one, she can set him free, he finally loves someone and she most likely loves him too...but he lets her go back to her village to save her father thus, saving her/giving her the opportunity herself, to save herself from her situation. All at the stake of his own goals and purpose. Why...well, "if you love something, set it free, if it comes back to you, its yours. If it doesnt, it was never yours to begin with"
Can anybody be happy if they aren’t free?
You can't control anybody, especially not a chick. Everybody is their own person with their own plights and desires, being unable to let go is a lesser paradigm, a function of childhood when the babies don't want to be weaned off their mother's titty. Get off the titty boys.
Now obviously he is disheartened but he acecpts it with grace and honor. The way I view it, when you have it all, that's exactly when you need to remind yourself to let go. Nothing is yours, life is in a constant state of flux and so must you be. Be comfortable with that.
In the end SPOILER ALERT - He shows his male aggression once again but in a tamed fashion, he doesn't kill the dude who came to kill him. He spares his life. That's his full transition into a civilized man.
In the end he's human again and I thought this was funny, Emma Watson (the princess) still asks him to grow a beard LOL.
^ Thanks. LOL!
What'd you think of the Beast's "look" in the live-action one? The demeanor and vibe and just the way they make him look. To me it seems suspiciously lacking. Like they're erring so far on the side of trying to asexualize the beast that they inadvertently make him out to be a father figure. That in the end this is some Hollywood pedophile sh*t. Lol. I hope I'm wrong
I thought his face looked a little gay lol. He definitely could've had more aggression integrated into his face. Had very cuckish mannerisms and facial expressions.
Damn im watching way too much jordan peterson loool
But yea i did think something was off but nothing really set in stone after your comment
Yes I also think that It explicitly makes LeFou gay, and his story unfolds in a way that is sure to inspire regret in anyone who prematurely declares the character.
