get the paperwhite.
closest thing to reading paper (very easy on the eyes and brain) and it has a very subtle light that adjusts to the amount of light in the room.
if you want all the extras you get with a kindle fire you may as well get an ipad, but reading off those things is like reading off a computer screen.
