Fantastic Definition of Freedom
I go to this very small, kinda make-shift zendo here in my city. There's about 6-10 people who sit (at most) on any given morning.. It's super low-key, and random. The address isn't even listed online. But today, Michael Wenger was sitting zazen with us. It was a pretty awesome surprise. He's a zen master whose written a few books.
Anyway, I had the opportunity to sit one-on-one with him today, and we talked. It was pretty interesting. I sat down, and told him I have no idea what we're supposed to be doing (It was some sort of ritual to sit with him, and I was sorta just chiln in my basketball shorts haha). He was real cool about it, and just laughed and was like, "Just shut up and sit down"
Anyway- his definition of freedom is the following:
To be free is to not be hindered by your habits and tendencies. It is true beginner's mind, not limited by the usual way, or unusual way, of doing things
It was a really cool experience, and just thought his definition of freedom is so spot-on.
