I was thinking about a

I was thinking about a college enviroment party app. Something extremely simple where you can pinpoint your location on a local map and give a description, rating, post a picture, etc. I think a big fraternity school would like it. It wouldn't be anything amazing or super unique but it would be fun to see what is going on in your local area.

You understand that would

You understand that would have to be user-driven, correct? How would you entice people to use your app and add local content

I'm honestly, not a huge fan

I'm honestly, not a huge fan of the 'app business'.

It's very expensive....

And your value is diminished heavily when you enter the app market... Because you're forced to play by the pricing strucutre of apps, which are very cheap.

Plus, it's very unlikely an app will become huge enough to garner a profit.

Moreover, if you have a following, it's much more effective to do a direct sale online, then to tell them to download your app in the market place.

So yeah, apps for making money, tend to suck.

it's extremely enticing to a college freshman that has no idea where the party is it. Fraternitys could use it has competition and see how many other users "like" their party. Within the pinpoints people could be providing live  messages saying what's up. Important information could be added such as possible fees to get in, themes, guy/girl ratio. Sometimes it's even beneficial to know how to simply walk to a party without getting lost.

As far as getting that ball rolling and getting people to download it, the name its self and logo needs to represent its simplicity. It has to be a single word phrase like "partyfest" because it's supposed to feel like a snapchat social media app not a hoteltracker.com lol. I don't know exactly how I would promote it other than messaging all of my college aged friends. I think this app would be fun in a small town like I live in, people would post a funny pictures and label their party "sausage fest" haha.

A friend and I are trying to go into this together and if we were to make any profit at all it would

be sweet because we've never done anything like this before.

yeah I've been reading that the App Store is the most competitive market in the world, and they've mentioned this lots of times on shark tank lol. however, what I'm promoting has zero value outside of an app.

my friend is a college

my friend is a college freshman and this idea really was manifested by some of his frustrations that all the parties are only heard by word of mouth and they all have vague names like party at "red door" that make no sense to someone that hasn't been at the party before.

what the hell? I've been

what the hell? I've been reading that it takes on average 18 weeks to create a functional app. This can't be true.
