How to be dominant and lead a sports team?
Hey guys, just wondering if any of you have some advice on how to become a leader on a sports team. We've got to have some athletes here!
I play on one of the best varsity soccer teams in new england. I made varsity as a sophmore, got descent time (didn't start), and was the #3 goal scorer on the team. I defintely have the potential to be one of the best players. I just don't know how to get the leader mindset going. I'm known for being the kid with tons of athleticism and talent, but no discipline.
I'm defintely on the right track.
It's funny how my mindset has changed over the past year:
Sophmore: I'm afraid to play on this team, I'm not going to be too competitive just keep up with the others and be a good team mate.
Junior: I'm going into this season looking to dominate. Still not basing myself off other's performance (external) but pushing myself to my limit. I have the potential to be great, its a lot of hard work, but nothing is worse than being a chode.
Ok so you're asking how to be dominant and lead a sport's team.. the question is, what exactly does that look like to you?

I should figure that out. It could go a lot of different ways
Be prepared to discuss during our session ;)
got some good stuff figured out after practice tonight.
I need to be a leader who can display a full range of emotions. I was motivating some of the younger guys, telling them to keep up the good shit..but on the otherside of the spectrum I was also snapping at the guys that were making stupid mistakes and fucking around. I got a lot of compliance from the players around me when I did this. Yet again, I knew when to be mr.serious and I also took some time to shoot the shit and keep the game fun. Most importantly I WAS VOCAL AND LOUD no matter what.
I pulled out my player report from last season ( yeah my coach is that legit). I found this under my tactical skills report:
" Offensive confidence needs work. You had multiple breakway situations where you dialed back your speed. I want you to develop more of an attack mentality- Like I AM going to score when I get the chance. You need confidence to do this"
I'm sitting here thinking, damn reminds me of my game with women lol. I have the tools, but I NEED TO BECOME A FUCKING CLOSER!
