How to Develop an App For Android or iPhone
What's the best resource for this?
Also, how do you go about patenting your ideas and applications? I have a big money maker in the pipeline I wanna start working on ASAP. If anyone has developing experience or can point me in the right direction, please do. Thanks fellas
Yeah I've had apps developed. Both of them are in use on this site/forum.
Are you SURE you want an app? Or do you want a web resource that can be USED on a mobile like an app.
I'm positive I want an app. It's a game application. It's a knock off of a pretty popular game, that in my opinion could compete with it. Different name, different look, and loosely similar gameplay.
Ok that's beyond my scope but I can put you in touch with someone who's also bootstrapping their own game. Only issue is remember to stay on track. He will go on and on and on and you'll realize all of a sudden you've been talking about something completely off-topic for the last twenty minutes. Pm me
One of the cool things about ELance is you can find a kickass programmer with certifications and experience in a country like India, for example, and not pay nearly as much as an equivalent programmer in the US because it costs so much less for them to live there.
Cool I'll keep that in mind.
My basic plan is to give them some startup capital for developing and then they get 30% equity when we sell it down the line, if that ever materializes.
I'm not sure that's a good plan. I don't know how much it would cost to produce it, because I don't know much about app development, but I don't think that too many programmers would go for that. Also it's probably a better course to save up your money, pay 100%, and be the sole owner of your intellectual property.
I'm not talking about intellectual property. I would own that as well as a majority stake in the app. I would need to find a developer that believes this app has as much of an upside as I do.

Yeah that just really doesn't work. Just get out there and talk to some programmers and see who's cheap. But if you can't afford at least a couple thousand on this, probably more, well you just need to start saving up because game apps are not for you.

gotcha
Look for a college kid willing to do the programming and what not for cheap. I'm sure their are a ton of qualified kids out there. I rememeber this kid a few years ago that went to my highschool, and developed his own online game and app too I believe.
cool idea
Yeah there are some awesome high school and college programmers around. Not too many thoughts on how to find them tho
Google start up weekend with whatever city you are in.
You don't have to pitch your idea there you csn steaal the peple there
I think I'm gonna hit up a kid who was in one of my classes. He's developed a couple of apps already and I even downloaded one by accident. The game that we would be "piggybacking" off of is doing 50k a day in ad revenue, has 50 million installs, and 47000 reviews just to give you guys a picture.
Does anyone know anything about patenting or intellectual property?
I think you have the guy sign an NDA?
Otherwise it depends on the relationship you have with the guy, and making sure the guy realizes you have a ton of ongoing value to give with this project.
I've got plenty of projects going on that sort of basis. Bootstrapping many times isn't possible without it. And what's crazy is the community is what allowed me to form those relationships.
Yeah I think I might just go through e-lance and hire someone in India with excellent reviews. Finding the right developer seems to be the trickiest part. I'm going to start putting my ideas on paper and making a business plan in the coming month. I'll have the capital to start working on this in early march. It seems that with apps, just like stocks and IM, you see the most ROI from diversification. I hope to start with apps and then maybe step into doing IM or SEO in the future. I like the industry I'm in school for but the idea of working 9-5 during the week just sucks. I want freedom to be able to travel and most importantly set my schedule.
Most people do IM or SEO way before getting into apps.
Start that money making discussion thread MW. I would be interested in seeing what sort of resources you use and have guided you through your IM journey. Even if two or three users can break into the market and make a decent living that would be amazing and life changing.
