I'm noticing some patterns in my life and recognizing some changes that need to be made.

I've gotten pretty good at training dogs, I think its because I've gotten good at recognizing thought patterns as they manifest physically. If a dog is behaving in a calm, submissive kind of way it can be seen in its body language. The ears are back, shoulders down, breathing normal appears calm etc. I've learned that misbehaviour starts when a thought pattern is allowed to manifest itself uncorrected. If the dog perks its ears up, puffs out its chest, excited breathing, fixates with the eyes etc. its a good time for a very quick, subtle correction. If those behaviours and thought patterns are allowed to play out the dog gets more and more excited, fixated and often times it leads to the dog taking off and chasing. At that point there is virtually no chance it will hear you if you're yelling for it to stop or come back. It already has too much momentum and the thought pattern has already become the action.

I have come to see discipline this way. If you are able to observe behaviours and make course corrections early on, before things get off track, the correction is very easy. If you wait until its too late, momentum carries you in the wrong direction and it becomes very hard to get back on track. I have observed this with the habits I have been trying to install: gym, meditation, keeping organized etc. if you are in the habit and monitor yourself very carefully its actually pretty easy to make corrections. If you play it too loose it becomes very easy to become derailed.

I had a great conversation with a good buddy recently, he has weekly meetings with another friend of his on self development type stuff. They have been talking a lot about discipline. This buddy of his is apparently super-organized. He apparently has daily, weekly, and monthly lists which are pretty much done before they start. Apparently buddy pretty much wakes up and the first thing he does is check the list and cross everything off because its done. If there is an item or two remaining he talks about how easy it is to correct. This guy is miles ahead of the game, always prepared for anything, he is a blank canvas and basically spends no time with his head cluttered with things he needs to do. I'm inspired by this story and feel motivated to pretty much discipline myself like a dog.

I'd love to discuss this on the call and hear from guys who have good discipline as well as those who might struggle with it

It reminds me of the phrase

It reminds me of the phrase "We're creatures of habits" and that if you want to change them, it's usually an uphill battle.

SUCKS that i'm going to miss next week's conference because of work; this topic is extremely relevant
