If anyone hasn't watched Todd's recent video on "Stopping Moving Sets"... WATCH IT

This guy may be from that "old school" era of pickup... but the shit he talks about with stopping moving sets is...
DEAD FUCKING ON.
http://www.rsdnation.com/todd/blog/conquering-complacency-and-field-miss...
This is the kind of stuff I've been doing with my wing recently and it actually works really well...
My wing actually pointed out to me something that I was doing wrong (waiting until I was way too close to them to start opening) which was the exact same thing that Todd talks about in this video.
REALLY REALLY informative video... I actually wish more pickup coaches, in general, put out videos like this... Where they actually show you what the fuck they are talking about. Just in terms of the logistics of different techniques.
And the "tap tap... step back" opener from behind is EXACTLY what I do in daygame- works fucking magical.

Good post. A big difference
Good post. A big difference it made for me was to open sets when you're far away. I used to walk right up to their side when they're going the opposite way and they just keep walking sometimes.
Met some cool chicks, but I ended up ditching them so I could go hit up more sets. Should have stayed though, I was having fun with them
Gonna watch that vid again in a bit.

Same here.
I didn't realise how creepy it is when you suddenly pop up next to them and start talking, using your voice from a distance let's them know you're coming and mean business. This is a solid, informative video

Oh. Manwhore deleted my post cuz he thought I was trying to be a sneaky marketer dickhead... la la la... Anyway, my only comment on the video was that it was pretty fucking great stuff, though I think that he overcomplicates the whole thing. Like... you know, just go and talk to her like a normal person... And I don't think getting right in front of her is creepy (unless YOU think it's creepy). It's by far the easiest way to stop her - interrupting her path, like a roadblock.

Manwhore, in your experience is it better to stop girls this way that Todd explains or the Sasha/Yad way?

There's no comparison. Block their path, get their attention. Get up in their grill
Can someone point out the video of Todd's (ok maybe it's in this thread) but also the time he'd discussing it.

This video is awesome. I've been using a lot of technique from this for night stuff as well, especially street sets at 2 in the morning. Definitely broadly applicable!

Same here. The 'step back' is awesome, just don't make it too obvious when you do it though or you'll look like a pansy.

That's a cool video. I like how he does daygame. I remember i opened a set by going in front of a girl and scared the shit out of her, so i stopped doing it. Will try Sasha style next time i do daygame.

Sasha/Yad way is very good.
Figure out your own way using these guys as reference. I sometimes do a basketball defensive stance.
Most of the guys on RSD are not that good.

@level_up:
Lol yeah, I'm not that good but I have some pretty decent in-field footage and I notice that I tend to get in front of the girl, but in a much more "casual" way than Sasha. I am a really really big dude so I found that jumping in front kinda tripped a lot of girls out lmao.instead I find that I am more relaxed than Sasha, obviously he's way better than me but I do find that my approach is much more slowed down than his.
Instead, I opt to basically do a "tap tap" approach and then sorta take advantage of the small moment of "surprise " where she pauses and side step in front if her. Then, if she keeps walking I basically walk backwards with her for a few steps at a slight angle.
I realty like what Sasha does here and for moving sets it looks just so money. Lmao I would just have to put the time in and learn to calibrate for the fact that I am such a big, scary dude.

When I was on bootcamp with sasha, one of the things he taught was to NOT do that -- walking backwards with the girl. So like if she keeps walking it's better to just keep your feet in place and keep talking or whatever. You can turn your torso but DON'T move. If she ignores/smiles and keeps walking, you can re-open.
Once you do it that way you'll see why. Much bigger impact. Example from Sasha: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psGEYfu-rwM
And lmao about the scaring girls thing. That does tend to happen. Usually I do some move with my hand as I'm coming up on their side so I catch their attention before getting in front... in that case it's no problem, if not, sometimes girls get scared. I think it's hilarious. Don't really see it as something bad, just something funny. As long as you don't make a big deal out of it should be fine.

@linus:
Why does he talk so fast?
lol not hating... I'm sure there's a reason... I just notice that I tend to talk a lot slower than he is.
Also- Thanks for the info about walking backwards... that's legit. I'll start doign that. Although, I will say- I've hooked plenty of sets by walking backwards with them and after like 2-3 steps getting them to stop.
Also- is there any difference, from anything you've heard from sasha, regarding "nightgame STREET sets" and daygame... with regards to how you approach it? Mainly about the logistics of the approach... obviously verbals and all that is totally different.

Because he's a comedian lol. Actually he's a lot more relaxed in his style now after he's hung out with James Marshall so much.
Yeah about the stepping back thing. I did that too until sasha told me to stop. Like I don't know about you but for me it feels a bit weird when you start stepping back. It's like you're immediately falling into her frame and desperately trying to win her over to yours. Or something like that. Feels more natural to just let it go and going back in. Sasha said he's had to re-open a girl up to 7 times before it hooked lol. That was also one of the big takeaways from bootcamp - REOPEN EVERYTHING. Demonstrates an incredible amount of chutzpah by not only stopping random girls on the street, but persisting once they've already walked off.
No difference that I know of... Well I guess since there's generally less people on the streets vs in the daytime, depending on the situation I've successfully just shouted girls down from behind. Like if they're walking ahead of me I'll just yell and get their attention and get them to stop that way. Probably a bad example, just illustrating a point, which is this:
Like... I don't know if there's a best way to do it, but I guess a better question is what the change in environment actually allows you to do differently. Like for instance in this case, yelling at girls from behind wouldn't work in the daytime, usually, because there's just too many people.

I like the tip about re-opening once they walk away - i usually only reopen if they're in a club but seeing sasha do it inspires me kinda.
Lately i think i've taken the 'step back' thing a bit too far and it comes across lame and timid when it's too obvious - you should do it immediately after you see her freak out...judge by her facial expression then step back. If she seems unfazed then stand your ground
