Just took massive initiative and expanded my role in my company by double

Currently, I'm doing sales in the New York office but our company just expanded into Chicago.
Today, I simply went up to the founder of our company and said, "Hey man, what do you think about having me help out with sales in the Chicago office- most of what I do, I do through email and phone anyway, so I wouldn't even need to be there in person"
He pauses for a second, thinks it over and goes, "I'd have to talk to x and y but that sounds like a great idea. Nice thinking"
BOOM
If this goes through- I just singlehandidly doubled my responsibilty and potential commission- as well as set myself up to manage sales teams in multiple cities.
And all it took was simply vocalizing my thought. I didn't care if he liked it or not. I didn't care if he thought it would be presumptious of me to ask. I wanted it and so I went out on a limb and suggested it- turns out the dude hadn't even though of it and on top of that really liked the idea.
