A lack of presence makes your life harder
I think presence has a lot to do with time management
When you half-ass anything in your life, and lack quality...you end up havng to compensate for it in the end. This is comparable to a college student that doesn't actively read and learn the content of a class, and ends up having to cram the day before finals. I think time management comes down to whether or not you want to actively work at things day by day and bit by bit, or if you want to slack most of the time and make up for it with large quantities of work once and a while. I'd imagine smaller incriminants of work would be more efficient though, and result in greater success.
It's true but it also adds a HUGE qualitative difference to your life. Living a life of slacking is low quality, and embeds in you an existence of the same. It's taking the enjoyment out of it for low-value pleasure like wacking off or playing video games or watching t.v., which replaces your sense of accomplishment and drive with something that's easier to come by and easier to achieve. This is where capitalism and the free market has sunk the common demographic to "sheep" status.
"The Unforgiven"
And quickly he's subdued.
Through constant pained disgrace
The young boy learns their rules.
With time the child draws in.
This whipping boy done wrong.
Deprived of all his thoughts
The young man struggles on and on.
He's known a vow unto his own,
That never from this day
His will they'll take away.
What I've felt,
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown.
Never be.
Never see.
Won't see what might have been.
What I've felt,
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown.
Never free.
Never me.
So I dub thee unforgiven.
They dedicate their lives
To running all of his.
He tries to please them all –
This bitter man he is.
Throughout his life the same –
He's battled constantly.
This fight he cannot win –
A tired man they see no longer cares.
The old man then prepares
To die regretfully –
That old man here is me.

capitalism and the free market did that? Havent the common demographic been sheep for most of human history?
IMO I would've said the opposite, the free market is what allowed people to rise up from oppression into a life of freedom and "pursuit of happiness" and to limit people economically is extremely limiting. Unless we're getting our definition of things mixed up, the masses are far better off in a truly capitalistic society.
I think it had less to do with societal constraints and limiting beliefs and more to do with the fact that there is very very small population with a capitalistic and entrepeneurial mindset. The people that are steeped in the belief that they are ultimately the ones in charge of their destiny will become successful no matter what.
Also, the free market and capitalism are merely just devices. It is up to the individual to use it to their advantage. Sadly, most people are content with slaving away for a boss, eating twinkies, and making weekend trips to bed bath and beyond for fun.
Yes I agree and disagree. Obviously for the motivated self-initiating individuals we're living in an AMAZING time. But for the rest of them, it's become much much easier to live a life of relatively easy and safe mediocrity. Watch t.v., drink alcohol, work your 9-5, "win".
'k now I'm parroting G-Money. "Winning"
