Learning Yoga
I'm thinking of doing a yoga class once a week. I get injured way too often and its pissing me off. I had a minor shoulder injury this year, and an ankle sprain recently. Shit's killing my gains in the gym. I'm pretty sure its because my body has a tendency to get really tight, and yoga would help a ton with that and improve flexibility.
I'm just thinking of joining a yoga class in my gym. Any book recommendations so I can learn more about it? Or any videos I should watch?
Seriously Youtube has everything on it man.
Nice to see you are realizing that yoga is essential for those true gains in the gym.
I powelift and find that I have to do at least 3 days a week of yoga.
Definitely look into vinyasa (flow) yoga. Since it gets you stretched through dynamic posing which will definitely lubricate and heal you up.
Not sure there's that much correlation but I've been taking hip hop dance classes the last 10 months. Did some ballet too
Less expensive to get a few yoga DVDs and do them in your living room. It's amazing
Definitely MW.
Look at it this way.
Lifting is a very "masculine energy" activity. And in the process if only done with no antagonist activity leaves you tight and prone to injury.
Yoga/Ballet/and many of female oriented activities are considered....obviously "feminine". And in the process if only done with no antagonist activity leaves you like a noodle with no backbone. (overstretching)
So you can imagine what this masculine energy activity can not only be doing to your body, but your emotional state as well. We see it everywhere when bulbous balloon guys have an overcompensation to be aggressive. It's not attractive.
So by balancing with some form of feminine energy activity, you will become into balance physically and emotionally.
I know i went off a bit but hey the more info to yah.
And one quick reference that I found interesting is that alpha waves beta and delta or theta dont remember. But it comes to show you have to have that balance in order to be that "alpha".
Yes I've always worked to keep that balance even as a kid. I was thinking more along the lines of stretching and/or keeping your body flow regulated but that's a fantastic point. In fact I'm sure you can see that a lot of the work we do in the drilling is based on the idea of bringing HUGE balance into your verbal and mental dynamics.

Couldn't have said it better.
Thanks, I'll check out YouTube and see what I can learn.
The class at the gym is free. I figure its a good way to get an introduction to Yoga then I'll start doing it at home as well.
A LOT of coaching comes down to a couple simple things.. integrating more masculine authority over yourself, and regulating your communication styles with masculine and feminine energy. This includes facial expression, body language, vocal projection, verbal expressiveness, etc. Any sort of dance or body flow training will not only ground your energy but also increase your expressiveness and happiness.
So went to my first yoga class today at my gym.
Apparently it was an advanced class... lol I got my ass kicked and had no idea what i was doing.
Definately not relaxing and I was fucking up the breathing. Halfway through I was way out of sync with the instructor and would lose my balance a lot as well (I blame it on my right ankle which I sprained a while back, its good now but its still not 100 percent). Also I wasn't anywhere as stretchable as other people in the class and I fucked up a lot of poses.
Needless to say, I think I'm going to hit up the basic classes first so I can build up a solid foundation.
I feel better after though, I can see why Yoga is so damn useful, it just forces you to build stability, balance and flexibility. All very important for preventing injuries. That was a damn good workout.
I think Yoga will be awesome for my game as well, as people have commented that my body seems a bit rigid and tight at times.
