Lesson on learned helplessness
So my buddy studies psychotherapy, and I went to one of their classes. One of the topics included learned helplessnes. They gave us a piece of paper with an anagram consisting of three words to complete. I was sitting in the back row, and got the impossible one.
After trying to solve first two cases which were a NO go, it was actually really hard to think of a solution for the third one which was actually solvable.
This video explains it in detail
Yeah this is a perpetual problem in any sort of training/development program lol. Thx for post
Good post. It's nteresting to think about learned helplessness in the context of goal setting and learning new skills. Where in my life have I induced learned helplessness-- by making the initial goal too complex ?
This is a nice reminder to be easy on yourself in the early stages of accomplishing a big goal. Create situations, where you can have little victories to gain momentum.
