New to the game..
Sun, 06/24/2012 - 22:12
Hey guys.. I'm new to the game of pick up and just looking to get started.
Some background - I just turned 19 and am an Indian brought up in Hong Kong but study in the US (lovely British accent for the ladies). Im very fair skinned so no one can tell I'm Indian (this comes into conversations a lot). I look Italian so I play that persona for jokes. I'm very confident arouns girls I'm comfortable with but have little experience with cold approaches outside clubs/parties.
I'm planning on getting started seriously when July begins. Here is how my first and only cold approach, which I did before leaving campus, went down. Let me know on what worked and what needs work.
(approach random hot brunette)
Me: hey are you European by any chance?
her: no why?
me: doesn't matter.. don't really care. just wanted to talk to you because you are cute.
her: oh haha thanks
me: but really, you aren't European?
her: haha nope.. I'm from xxx
me: damn, I was hoping I would finally meet a fellow European
her: you are European?
me: yea I'm Italian.. you couldn't tell
her: oh really.. I couldn't make out
me: (pushing her away gently) damn woman, now you are making me feel so unpatriotic.. but yea I'm brought up in Monaco. only reason I have a British accent is because I had a lot of British teachers.
her: wow that is so cool
me: you actually do have a lot of German features (total bullshit)
her: do I? haha oh my.
me: yeah.. you arw just living in denial. I'm going to call you German girl from now on.
her: but I'm from xxx hahaa
me: in my eyes you are the girl from xxx who is actually german
more small talk.. asking name etc.. making.her laugh.
me: well I've got to head off.. give me your number so I can hit you up in the future
her: ahah okay
(I then hug her)
me: don't look so cute next time.. ill end up being late again (as I leave - she laughs)
how do you think that went? I haven't been able to hit her up for a day 2 yet because I left the fucking country for summer holidays haha but I will do in the fall.
hopefully a good cold first approach ever..

Why would you pretend to be italian? It doesn't make sense and just makes it confusing for everyone lol.

I find it better when you make an actual reason to get her #, i.e. we need to go on an Italian boatride or to go get gelato or something. And I would say if you pretend to be Italian it might be good idea to use a fake italian accent.
Although you have the confidence to approach her out of the blue this will seperate you further in her eyes from other guys as being someone thats cool and has his shit down.
Saying "so i can hit u up in the future" shows you dont have that much experience getting girls #s but no problem you said you're new

Oops, didn't mention this in the OP. Since, I don't look Indian, most people can't tell where I am from. I've gotten countries from every single continent but mostly European/Middle-Eastern/South American. My friends, however, do not believe that any girl could think I'm from France/Italy etc. So, I play it as a joke saying I'm Italian when I first meet them (it goes down MUCH better than Indian) and when I get to know them, I let them know on the joke and how they fell for it etc. So far all the girls, at this point, are to some degree hooked even on a friends level so don't run away/ignore because I told them I'm Italian when I'm actually Indian.

@Alex:
As of now, I just use the Italian guy with a British accent as somewhat of a hook. I live in a small college town so there aren't a lot of opportunities like that but I tend to say what comes up in my head at that moment.
I'm just wondering, how does "so I can hit you up in the future" show lack of experience? Wouldn't that show intent? (Not arguing, genuinely new/confused)

lmao
But seriously, he's not fucking around. We've lost many a brave soul to indian race trolling. Don't be the next
Also- some dude on the subway tonight asked me if I was australian after talking to me for like 3 minutes... I def. took that as a compliment.

Sorry, I'm not trolling. I genuinely use it as a hook. What exactly are you referring to by Indian race trolling?

haha don't worry man... indian race trolling? uhh I don't know dude, but it seems pretty self explanatory...
Prob something along the lines of, "It's harder for indian dudes to get chicks" and then proceeding to have a 100 page thread about whether or not that's the truth. I don't read those threads though, so I don't relaly know how it all goes down.

Re: New to the game..
@punani:
I guess my only point is that it's completely unnecessary. You say you use it as a hook but I can't imagine how that would "hook" anyone. It's not exactly a factor in what makes someone want to talk to you or not.
I'm half swedish, half korean... and I don't remember that I've ever brought it up in a conversation (though it's quite a common opener when girls approach me "hey where are you from? bla bla..."). Lol why do you need to bring up your nationality at all in the first 5 minutes?
In terms of a hook, how about "you're gorgeous and I want to find out who you are..."

Re: New to the game..

In that conversation, I guess I kind of forced it. But even when I meet a new girl and it is just a casual conversation where we are trying to get to know each other, I get the "nice accent" and "where are you from" within the first two minutes. I usually respond to the latter by saying "where do you think/you tell me" but in this case I do agree that I did force that to a degree.
As far as the hook, maybe it is just naive college freshmen/sophomores, but it seems to really work. My friend, who is straight up from France (the accent and all), has had a lot of success with it. They always say they love his accent and French guys are awesome etc. Ever since I have been using it, it has helped out - though that might be because I usually don't tell them where I'm from and let them wonder for a while, making me mysterious or so.
What do you think about this move in the future at a club/during nightgame:
- They ask me where I'm from
- Say they have 3 guesses or else they become my bitch
- They can't guess
- Say "you're my bitch now" and grab their hand/lead them to the dance floor
- Escalate

I would say it doesn't matter. Like, they don't like your french friend because he's french. That's retarded. They probably like him because he's an awesome dude, and complimenting him on his accent is more of a rationalization or whatever. Does that make sense?
All the real communication takes place in the subcommunication. Words don't matter. And yeah like Buddha said, when someone asks me where I'm from, I tell them where I'm from.

Re: New to the game..
@buddhagames:
Asking for a girl's # so you can "hit them up later" or "to get in touch in the future" show's that you have no real plan for what you want to do with her later, and is therefor lacking intent. It makes you look confused. Like you got her #, but now you don't know what to do with it.
There is also a principle out there that states that people want/need justifications for things:
You could tell a girl that you want her to come home with you and she'll say "no," but if you say "come over and we'll make coffee" or "There's a great view of the dolphins from my window" or if she asks why then you reply "because my dog can do backflips"..
It doesnt matter if any of these things are true just that there is a justification.
I'd like to hear what other guys have to say about this but I guarantee you they will agree. I can't tell you how much of a difference it makes in getting a girl's digits for instance. I used to get #s the way you are describing (no justification) and they would usually be dead #s
