Quick Review of After Earth with Will Smith

This movie was great, it got a lot of bad publicity but that's because it was made ahead of its time. People, especially Americans lol, aren't ready yet.
However I do have one critique.. Will Smith played the dad way too austere in familial situations. Ideally, he wasn't supposed to portray it like that.
It's not about not having, or showing, any emotions at all, it's about having control over which ones you allow and cater too. It's choice, not discarding the entire emotional experience. You can allow certain ones in, grow them, ignore others. This is how you build a personality, and the kind of drive and zest you have towards life.
But I also think that for our times, he had to portray it the way he did, to emphasize the simple fact that he had absolute control over his emotions. In the end that was the foremost message of the movie.

Will:
"Fear is not real. The only place that fear can exist is in our thoughts of the future. It is a product of our imagination, causing us to fear things that do not at present and may not ever exist. That is near insanity. Do not misunderstand me danger is very real but fear is a choice."
