Self-Discipline and Mindset

So there seem to be two "contradictory" ideas one runs into in self-development...
One of them is basically "Work hard and sack up" and just push through whatever negative emotions you feel in any situation, fastest way to get good, break through homeostasis and expand your Comfort Zone.
The other is to ignore anything negative and only focus on the positive, visualise what you want and your subconscious will manifest those positive outcomes.
Funny thing is they both seem to work. For example went a few days not consciously "approaching" so to speak, but imagining good outcomes all the time and lo and behold hoes are practically falling from the sky with no effort on my part and life is beautiful. Chicks are opening me.. but then say there's some looming deadline to hit next week and it's back to pushing through shit to get 'er done and jeez gotta be working harder and whatnot. How does one reconcile these two?
