tricks for not being over-invested?
do you guys somehow manage your own excitement/expectations? i usually dont expect much but i met ultra cute asian girl today, and we don't have that much asians in czech so that's kinda rare... so i haven't send the first message yet but i already feel that i care too much. though she seemed invested, started asking me questions pretty much right away, and actually asked me to call her so she could save the number.

Bro tell her straight up that you are excited to meet a seemingly chill / rare pokemon, and that you just dont wanna get your hopes up because she might not be as awesome as a Picachu or Charzard. But there is still a chance and if she is willing to work with professor oak and train hard to win gym battles she could actually have more depth to her than just a shiny surface.

Dude it all comes down to the interaction you have with the girl. She should be just as excited to see you as you are excited to see her.
As far as "techniques"; one thing I ALWAYS do is if I am meeting the girl at a non-bar venue (like a park, hike, outside) I have her pack a picnic lunchbox. Someone else could probably explan better than me the multiplude of ways this is beneficial (aside from getting free food prepared for you).
No lunchbox = no date.
