Understanding Your Metabolism
The metabolism is an interesting mechanism. Many people tend to think of it as a numerical number that will counteract fat gain and introduce new weight loss.
That is not entirely true!
The body does not maintain homeostasis on the basis of a scale, but a thermostat. So if you are going to diet and "clean" eat, your metabolism will slow down with it as a mechanism for "starvation".
This is because your body wants YOU to survive. It does not care about your wants and needs..only SURVIVAL.
I believe this guy has some good info for you guys to look into. He uses actual empirical data compared to bro science.
Yeah Patrick.Bateman and I discussed this at length to my utter chagrin. Derp
Is the metabolism dependant on carb intake at all? He seems to touch upon it a little bit. I know when Bateman and Manwhore were discussing the whole potatoes diet they said it was the high carbs that allowed for low calories without crashing the metabolism.
Like I said the body is a thermostat...so lets take the example of temperature. When your body is too hot, your body will regulate that by "cooling down" or sweating.
Your metabolism does the same thing. Do low intensity exercise, and your body will slow down according to what information you give it, and your metabolism will slow down. Eat low carb, go into survival mode and your body will try to conserve as much fat as possible. I dont have anything against walking though, but lets make it clear that it's not low intensity exercise.
So the combination of low carb diets and most exercise (because low intensity=slow metabolism, and high intensity=loss of muscle and definite starvation mode) leads to a result that'll have you dependent on this "diet" like a drug or you will lose all of your results.
I have no problem eating potatoes in general, but it comes down to YOUR metabolism and how it handles carbohydrates. I'd suggest having carbs like that AFTER a workout. This is because such a fast digesting carb will spike your insulin, which stimulates one of our branches of the nervous system, called the parasympathetic nervous system (or rest-n-digest). It's not fun when you eat a big meal n yer tired man.
As long as you hit your specific macros for lets say...losing weight..your body can produce all the insulin it wants from lets say an all carbohydrate diet (which I really don't suggest), but since you hit a caloric intake lower than your normal amount of daily values, you will lose weight, no matter what. Its just straight up thermodynamics.

got it. Thanks
Yeah I stopped it on the potatoes. I get my carbs another way

Hows that exactly?
I thought it had something to do with them being a starch too
