Was listening to the song, "Hallelujah"
Was listening to a cover of this song done by Jeff Buckley. Then I got curious about some of the lyrics, so I checked some of it out on Rap Genius, and I found something that was actually pretty fucking amazing.
Well your faith was strong but ya needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew ya
She tied you to her kitchen chair
She broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips, she drew the Hallelujah
So, the second stanza of that verse above, is an allusion to the biblical story of Samson and Delilah. I'm just gonna copy/paste the Rap Genius explanation below... This is literally from the fucking BIBLE- incredible:
A reference to Samson and Delilah. Samson knew Delilah was using emotional warfare on Samson to learn from where he attained his power and strength. She would tell him he hated her because he wouldn’t share this information. Samson broke down and told her it was his long hair that had never been cut that gave him his power because. He told her because loved her so much and he couldn’t take the crying anymore, she wore him down. She had men come in and cut his hair, he lost his power, and it led to a tragic end for him.
That story is so epically symbolic. Holy shit.
And to think that this is from the bible.
Girls want to know where we get our power from, but the second we tell them- it's over. This is just so symbolic of seduction and really just male//femail dynamics in general. Wow
Tight.
I think reading the old and new testament is mandatory, non only for game, for understanding the all dynamic that goes around life.
Yeah man, Samson. The original bad ass. You never read the Bible? By the time I was 13 I'd read it thru 8 times.
His end was tragic for a ton of other motherfuckers too, btw. Those dudes that cut his hair.. yeah they regretted that shit.
Great post man. This mirrors my struggle pretty accurately right now. I've been on a journey of disclosure and acceptance with my main girl lately. I've realized that I've been keeping a part of myself from her which I had probably perceived as a source of my power, value, strength which was really just superficial ego protection. I now see it as insecurity and weakness and am now more comfortable being more transparent with her. I realize now that its not my journey to try and show her how deep the well goes, the true depth and real source of my power is well beyond her capability to even understand. She can only marvel and be in awe of it, allowing herself to enjoy the mystery. The same is true for her as a woman
Could it be that Samson's hair was like Dumbo's magic feather? Never actually the source of his power at all but something he never had to face living without so never had a reference experience to know that he was still whole, without it
Yeah man, totally. There's a lot of ways to interpret the story
i also think it's important to note that Samson specifically gave into her emotional warfare. This wasn't a "holy" relationship where both people were ready and willing to be open to each other in the way it sounds like you and your girl are working towards.
This was Samson, a true badass, giving into her negative frame. It's similar to how girls can test guys a lot before dropping their egos and opening up like the little flowers they are. It's like how a lot of guys will text like total badasses and then randomly decide to be chodes and then all of a sudden the girl turns on them.
You our can never not be your best self. A woman looks Tia Mann to protect her and to be a heroic figure in her life and if we decide that for whatever reason we can be less than our best selves then we can expect to receive the same from the women were around.
samson have in to his weaker self, for just a moment and it cost him.
And to your point, I do believe that there is something to be said for Samson believing that his entire strength was in his hair. "The Tao that can be spoke of is not the true tao". Perhaps he didn't understand that his true strength lay within himself. He needed to be able to point to something and say, definitively, "THIS IS WHO I AM. THIS RIGHT HERE." And as soon as he was forced to pinpoint a single thing that was the source of his power and energy it was gone LIKE THAT
the truth is obviously deeper than any one thing. There is no "magic line" or magic haircut that is going to make women throw themselves at you. That which women will claw at you for can be pointed at but never truly identified.
It it is your essence as a man. And I think that if you sacrifice that core part of who you are for ANYONE then yes, you will meet a tragic ending. But opening up and sharing that gift with others is totally different from sacrificing it for the sake of others.
