What should I get a degree in?
Sun, 06/17/2012 - 20:09
I have no idea what to get a degree in. Will be moving to Canada around august to study (and game) but can't decide what I should get my degree in. In high school I took business since that's what appealed to me more than science shit. Got 2nd from all the graduating business students (some cunt beat me because of my shitty spanish grade). By the way, I'm currently 16.
I've had various ideas so far but they all seem to fall apart. At first I was thinking about becoming a pilot but then found out that apparently you will pay high tuition to get shit wages for many years before reaching to a normal / okay salary. (a lot lower than other areas when just starting)
Then being a lawyer but had similar reasons as above + it just isn't my thing.
Accountant. For some reason people kept laughing at this idea. I did best at accounting in school. Still kind of thinking about this.
MBA. Seems like a good choice but it also seems like a very common degree.
Wut do manwhores?

Re: What should I get a degree in?
@Sick-Cunt: I went through the exact same thing! So here's my insight
What do you like to do? What is your passion in life. Sounds cliche but if you can figure that out you will never go to work a single day in your life, because youd love what you do and get payed to do it. Also make sure your degree is applicable to the real world and that when you graduate with that degree there will ACTUALLY be jobs in this shit economy. If you don't know still, go to a community college and save ten of thousands of dollars. That's what I did and Saved tons of money that I would have wasted just doing general educations classes. There is no reason you should have to pay thousands to get those done. College should be specifically for application of your career choice, like they do in other countries besides America. I don't think you should start off your life in debt but that's just my 2 cents take it with a grain of salt.
As for me I love being active and sports it makes my day and feels natural to me! so after three years at a cc paying 500 bucks a year I'm off to SFSU to do kinisiology then going to get my masters in sports science/phisiology overseas where they PAY you to go to school and scholarships are easier to come by. I'm not kidding. Other countries want there children to be successful so in places like Sweden actually pay you to go. Housing food the whole shpeel.
Be smart about your degree choice and just try your best to make sure there's actually a solid amount of JOBS you could get w that degree. Because if not you might as well go to a trade school. Plumbers can make as much as md's sometimes dude. Just think about that :p overall you need to stand out! From everyone else and have a passion for your topic. If you have that you will be successful in anything you choose to do....Good luck to ya!!!!! Education is power over your circumstances and can open a lot of doors

@Manwhore:
Hard not to mw when that's what is expected in America. I think it's a scam personally :o to get kiddies to take out more loans and pretty much pay the banks till hell freezes over. Sounds kinda like the housing crisis because when you leave and get that degree, there's no jobs ;) and no way to pay off your loans. Bam! Default

@Sick-Cunt:That's what I wanted to say, do you think that guy really needed a four year education in accounting to sell stuff online? Maybe.... But self research and education would sure be cheaper

Definitely get the 4 yr degree or you'll have a complex your entire life. PLUS, college is easily the best time of your life.

@Sick-Cunt:
Well sure, this is what I'd tell my son.
Get a job and a degree in an ACTUAL skillset. Something infallible in a shit economy. Accounting, engineering, technical skills (automotive, welding), computer programming.. these are things that will always pay.
If I was to do it all over again I'd get an engineering degree. That is SUPERIOR man shit, e.g. we're kind of bred for it, AND it's super flexible. You can get an engineering degree and then get a job in mobile apps for instance.

Re: What should I get a degree in?
Yea I was also thinking about an engineering degree due to the same reason. There are so many branches of engineering though, would have to see which one would be best to work on.
I think right now my main choices are : Accounting, MBA, Engineering.

Scratch mba like a MOTHERFUCKER. Might as well get a degree in English. Anyone have another opinion on that?
I learned what I needed to know about business in the military. Of course I probably sound like a dumb ass to a guy who's made a couple mil in business already, but he certainly didn't learn what he needed to in college that's for sure.

@Manwhore:
Just depends on what your goals are.
But yes, PLANNING for an mba is pointless... the only times you will need it are the times when your company will pay for you to get it AND will get you into whatever school you want to go to.
