What would you do?- quick help

K so I'm moving in with a buddy of mine from work and everything is good to go except that he has a dog and the landlord is saying he wants an extra 2200 dollar deposit because of the dog.
My buddy just called me up and told me the situation and I said I would call him back in 20 or so.
How should i handle this?
On the one hand- I kinda wanna say- "Look man, the dog isn't mine, so you should be the one to put down the full deposit cause, while unlikely, if something DID happen that made us lose that deposit because of your dog it seems kinda fucked for me to be out 1100 dollars because of your dog"
On the OTHER hand- 2200 dollars is a lot for one dude to put down by myself.... how would you go about this? Should I just tell him he's gotta put down the full 2200?
The solution I have now is to call him back and tell him to call the landlord and try to negotiate it down to an 1100 dollar deposit- which would be his portion.

The
I'm not entirely sure.
The information I have is the following:
Initially- the agreement was for us to put down 1 month's rent in deposit (2200) and everything was cool and ready to go and then today my buddy got a call from the landlord saying, "The dog is an issue- can you have someone else take care of him etc. etc. " and my buddy was like "fuck that"
So the landlord said he would get back in touch with him.... a few minutes ago- the landlord called him and said, "Okay, we can let you have the dog at the apartment but we want you to down an extra 2200 dollar deposit in case some weird siht happens"

Just tell the landlord no,
Just tell the landlord no, and start looking for another apartment. That's a $4400 deposit. Pff. Landlord's crazy. And you NEVER give someone that kind of money anyways.. you understand the incentive you're giving them at the end to rip you off? They'd be forced to come up with $5k all of a sudden. Not going to happen.

Yup- so I combined your
Yup- so I combined your response with what I already had decided and we just decided the following:
My buddy was in agreement with me that I shouldn't have to pay for his dog.
Also- we both were in agreement that putting 4400 up front was fucked up and, like you said, gave the landlord HUGE reason to fuck us over at the end and additionally, basically takes away the entire point of us getting this apartment (which is because it's 1100 dollars a month which is SUPER cheap)
So he is going to tell our landlord that he's not willing to put down 2200 but that he is willing to put down a 1000 dollar deposit.
I'm fine with this because I"m not putting anymore money down and if the landlord does come back and say he won't budge off the 2200- we're just going to walk.

We contemplated not saying
We contemplated not saying anything about the dog but decided that wasn't too smart lol
Personally, I'd rather deal with this situation now, then 6 months into our lease and risk losing our deposit and getting kicked out... At least this way, everything is square moving forward. Not sure where you live man but in ny you don't fuck with that shit.

In many jurisdictions the
In many jurisdictions the maximum amount of security deposit which the landlord may request is equal to one month's rent. If pets are present, it's usually 1.25 months worth of rent for the security deposit. Check your local laws.
Regardless the landlord sounds like a piece of work and he/she probably won't appreciate an informed tenant.
