What's the best martial art?
I'm considering boxing/muay thai/mma or krav maga after new years. Right now I'm building my physique at the gym.
Not that people try to fuck with me or anything, but it helps a girl feel safe and gives you even more confidence.
IME if you're good at it krav maga is definitely the best for self defense. Even more so if you combina it with another full contact martial art. I haven't trained it but some of my friends have and some of the things they can do is amazing.
I did some karate and mma when i was a kid, then muay thai and then a little bit of boxing, but after all it is a sport designed for the ring with gloves, while krav maga is designed for any situation.
I would say just do the one that you enjoy most, or go to the gym that has the best trainers/fighters. I prefer muay thai but if the local muay thai gym was shitty i would rather go to a good boxing gym. Both of these are good but i've gotten the impression that good muay thai gyms are rare in the U.S
For fastest to learn vs most effective pick up boxing. If you know how to 1 2 someone you can stop a raging bully in his tracks send him back into the stone age.
I'm very fascinated by Krav Maga. Problem is, their training doesn't mix well with my schedule. Hopefully they'll change it, soon.
MW, have you tried tried any other martial arts as well? I'm seriously considering boxing.
I've mostly done it all dude. Almost my entire life.
The issue with Krav Maga is it assumes a certain level of understanding of the fundamentals, that's not good, because dudes coming into it will NOT get the training they need.
Aight, thx for your insights. Boxing it is, after new years. Right now I just focus on regaining muscle
Why would you wait so long? Just curious
I'm was/am a professional MMA and kickbox fighter. I have two black belts in Karate and Japansese Jiu Jitsu
I agree with Manwhore to pick up boxing. Krav Maga is marketing bullshit, people are gonna cry when they hear this, but I don't care. Put a beginning boxer against a beginning Krav Maga, or even experienced Krav Maga and he will get knocked the fuq out. So and it's easy: jab, straight, hook, upper.
After that learn wretling, so you know how to take out people without hurting them as well as a lot of fights and in wrestling match.
After that learn grappling probably, you can do something like no-gi MMA thing or you can do BJJ or Judo.
After that you can do fun things like kickboxing, adding some karate or capoeria.
Conclusion, do two days boxing and one day wrestling for a year and you can take on 10 Krav Maga faggots at the same time.
Fuck muscle, there are 15year old girls walking around in gyms here Netherlands that kick your ass. Also chicks don't care about muscle either, little bit of course, and that's eactly the amount you will get from martial arts workout.
The presense, the eye contact and the vibe someone who can fight give of is very unique and horny to girls, more than being a bulky bodybuiler is.
Darkdutchman, thanks man. That advice sounds solid.

I'm focusing on putting on some muscle on my body right now. Lost a lot during the months I've travelled. Also, I'm gonna start a tantra course in about a month. Time is veeery scarce.
i wonder if a guy can still learn to become a good fighter when he is near the end of his 20's, almost 30, not saying i want to compete, just good enough to defend myself.
Any sort of athletic background?
Any sort of athletic background?
not really, although did do some sports in high school, for me it's just so i can be able to defend myself better in case some guy gets too aggressive with me, and sometimes i feel i have to find some ways to release my anger, rage, stress, frustration, whenever life, society, the world can feel very cruel, tough, unfair, unjust.
Yes if you find the right boxing coach he can make you adequate quite quickly. A matter of a few training sessions instead of months and months of group classes. Boxing is a highly effective and "simple" martial art.
