Why is a crossfit gym suing scientists
I know I said in my other post "FUCK EVERYTHING I KNOW AND LOVE" and that is true... But for real FUCK crossfit.
It is getting lots of people into fitness.. Great fucking whoop. That is already being done and these fuckers are out there exploiting shit, injuring people for fun and money. A lot of people in crossfit are cool but really FUCK CROSSFIT! Fitness industry has evolved past crossfit. Its only good in FITNESS is getting people into fitness.
But it still serves a purpose. I personally know some people who got into fitness and started working towards happiness by getting into crossfit.
Hm that's interesting
Whenever I see someone using terrible form or exhausting extra unecessary effort at the gym I cream "Corssfit! Crossift! Crossfit!" excessively. True story.
Yeah I used to go to a crossfit gym 2-3 times a week and would do crossfit in a regular gym 2-3 times a week. I saw the same people over and over everyday. There weren't people dropping out all of the time Because of injuries. Of course, I have first hand experoence and not a fabricated study. And yes your form will degrade when you're doing an extremely intense workout designed for bj penn.
Hating on crossfit is making you seem the same as the crossfitters that think they're better than everybody else.

Are you really hating on people for working harder than you?

yeah bro. That's what I said after all. Derp
@ G-Money: "I cream "Corssfit! Crossift! Crossfit!" excessively. True story."
gross
If you take most People and make them climb stairs till their muscles give way their quads and knees will give out first. Wtf! Why aren't you using your hips and glutes? Cause most people sit all day and have fucked up bodies.
crossfit takes those fucked up bodies and puts a ton of pressure into them until they snap. There are some bomb ass people into and that came from crossfit... But the bro science is terrible for the industry.
Unless you have done some rehab lifting routine with help from a trained coach or are a young child almost everyone has SOME sort of problem with the movement of their bodies.

Yeah, I agree with this statement. If you find a reputable crossift gym with dedicated trainers, good on you. There's just lots of misinformation and bad practices that develop throughout that particular industry. Then again, that's almost anything.
A lot of guys rewire their brains completely wrong when they first start studying pick up and develop bad habits.
I'm sure there's shit gyms out there. The one I went to would scale workouts for newbies. And I've seen old ladies with grey hair do crossfit with slighly reduced weights.
In regards to the stair thing, I ran stairs and saw people do it without injury. Sometimes I was really tired while running stairs. But that's also part of the draw of crossfit. I did bjj so I was drawn to those hard workouts. Some people do really hard crossfit workouts and want more. If you want to get ripped you should do crossfit. We would usually workout without shirts and I noticed about after 2 weeks people's back muscles would start popping out if they stuck with it.
I don't do crossfit anymore. But if I did it again I would put my sport training first them crossfit 2-3 times a week.
YES! G-mullah brings it back to pickup.
Crossfit is cool cause it gets people into gym and provides an outlet for guys to become men/leaders. Manwhore LOVES crossfit cause the inside of one is like the military lol. But the downsides outweigh the general program. It'll get bigger before it dies but there can be avenues for guys looking into fitness
tried pickup among a miriad of other things without fixing the fucked up wiring of my brain. Enter manwhore, the conciousness electrician

yes crossfit is good for getting ripped but kinda sucks for getting big. Lots of "tough guys" get into crossfit and ironically those are the people with the most muscular imbalances due to working construction, sports, etc interesting thought
sentry. What are your goals with sport/fitness? What is your sport?
It was bjj. Right now I'm not training cause I have a couple injuries, not from crossfit. But I want to get into mma/bjj/boxing/wrestling. Crossfit isn't only for tough guy wannabees. I did crossfit and created my own CPAT (firefighter physical test) crossfit workout and I smoked the test coming in over 2 minutes under the time. Probably one of the fastest times of anyone taking the test in Hawaii. I didn't see anyone else come close.
Honestly what are these bad things about crossfit that you're thinking up? It sounds just like a bunch of theory nonsense to me. Like keyboard jockeys talking about picking up chicks on rsdn.
Crossfit got me into good enough shape to impress a ufc fighter that talked to me personally about joining his gym.
Honolulu firefighters that did crossfit were found to be doing their jobs using less oxygen that people that weren't doubt crossfit.
Which ufc fighter was that? Max Holloway? Just curious, I'm a huge MMA fan. Did bjj for two and a half years and Muay Thai for one and a half years.

Lol
i am being HARD on crossfit in my first post just cause the faults in it hit close to home. They obviously do a lot of good haha and I tried to show that in my next few posts, and you showed it with your experience
it sounds like keyboard jockey cause I was just pushing the one side hard but there are pros and cons to everything
It sounds like keyboard jockey because I'm guessing you've never done crossfit yourself but you're like "it's so bad"
And I'm not naming him cause I don't want anybody contacting him or something
Kinda true... But I told you why I was hating on it and what I like about it.

how would dropping his name mean I would contact him lol.
Depending on your goals and starting point - crossfit is great, unbeffitting or possibly high risk (depending on current health/fitness and exercise technique and coach).
There's really nothing more to say.
It's really easy to bash any particular style of fitness or martial art for that matter. But it all comes down to what is the best choice for a particular person. And if crossfit gets someone motivated to workout and be fit then that's half the battle right there. And like most things, there are good crossfit gyms and bad crossfit gyms. Same as there are shitty MMA gyms and fantastic MMA gyms. Can't use a few anecdotes and extend it accross all crossfit gyms. Because frankly, some gyms are doing awesome things.
And I don't do crossfit, it doens't fall in line with my goals and preferences and I like doing my own workouts and shit. But the way I see it, whatever gets someone motivated to exercise is awesome.
Crossfit is the opposite of fight club, you must talk about it as much as possible :P
On the real tho, I did one class of crossfit, and plan on doing throughout the summer until my soccer seasons begins. I like the workouts becuse they focus on functional movements, strength, and cardio...which is excellent if you play on a serious sports team. That being said, crossfit is NOT bodybuilding.
If my only goal was to put on muscle mass, I would stick to pump training at the gym. Some of those crossfit dudes have excellent looking bodies, but most of them (from what I saw in one class) look like your average athlete except they have exceptional strength and perfect form. I actually felt a bit too heavy for crossfit, I had one of the best physiques in the class but I still was getting my ass kicked by skinny dudes.Strength doesn't mean size, and I feel like a lot of people don't understand this. They hear crossfit gets you "ripped" and the wrong people come flocking in.

Pump training doesn't actually work well at building muscle in the long run. Well it does for people on the juice. But for natural lifters, the most muscle gain is experienced by getting stronger in the 5-8 rep range. This is because as a natty, it's often difficult to do two things at once. Replenish depleted glycogen levels takes firt priority and often gets in the way of triggering hypertrophy in the actual muscle tissue. Heavy work in the 5-8 rep range works very well at building muscle in the long run. It's quite rare to see people hitting 100 lbs chin ups for 5 and benching 300 lbs for 5 that lack muscle developement.
Now at first, with heavy training there will be a strong CNS adaptation and you will improve inter and intramuscular coordination. But eventually, to continue making strength gains, your body will have to increase the size of the contructural filaments of the muscle tissue.
I actaully haven't seen crossfitters that are THAT strong. Most of the work combines resistance work into a metabolic circuit. This greatly reduces the potential at building strength and power. Although compared to most people that workout it can be termed strong, but most people aren't following methodical programs that focus on consistent weekly progression in weight lifted or reps performed. But some crossift gyms do focus more on heavy lifting with long rest periods, those are usually the crossfitters than have decent strength.
When I did crossfit I was 165 push pressing 205. Shoulder pressing 125 for 3x5. Squatting 245 deadlifting 360. I've seen a very strong crossfitter doing turkish getups with 2 Heavy kettlebells in his hand. Saw guys press a very big heavy barrel with shifting sand in it. Myself I did a pullups with a 105lb dumbell between my legs. I was also able to hold a flag for a couple seconds and a front lever for like 10 seconds.
One guy that went to the crossfit gym I was at was getting drafted into the nfl.
That's pretty solid. Shoulder press is low though. That should be up around bodyweight for 5. Pull ups - 60% of bw x 5 is really good.
10 second front lever is just nuts. I'd have to see that to believe it. That's like world class gymnast right there. So forgive me if I seem doubtful.
But sounds like you were at a very legit crossfit gym. So I wouldn't really identify with doing crossfit generally, since different gyms fluctuate and debating with people over the value of crossfit is essentially useless. That's like aruging over how burgers are the best entree, when there's great fucking burgers and shit burgers.
That's pretty solid. Shoulder press coudl be stronger though. That should be up around 0.9-1x bodyweight for 5. Pull ups - 60% of bw x 5 is really good.10 second front lever is just nuts. I doubt 10 Seconds is world class. An iron cross is not an advanced gymnastics move. It's actually considered one of the easier moves. And my shoulder press being low? Bullshit a bodyweight shoulder press is pretty advanced
To clarify, by posting that video I wasn't saying that all crossfit gyms everywhere suck or that the people doing it are stupid. I've just heard a lot of stories about people injuring themselves again and again doing crossfit and at first I thought it was just haters. Then I saw videos like the one I posted.
I have no doubt that there are dudes doing crossfit who are killing it in fitness, but there's a lotta bullshit out there too. Like in OP's link.
The crossfit gym is suing scientists because they lied in a study and that hurts their credibility as a crossfit gym. That's fucked up man. I've seen loads of people, old people, out of shape people, etc do crossfit without getting injured. I've seen kids like 10 years old do crossfit.
And that video that's probably the exercise where you get the weight from floor to overhead by any means necessary. In my opinion there's nothing wrong with that because if you lift a heavy bag of concrete or some shit the way you lift it might look like what they're doing in that video.

I don't "love" crossfit. I would rather train in boxing/kickboxing. I do appreciate the strenuousness of it but yes people's bodies most of the time are not ready for it. A lifetime of being sedentary and their bodies don't even function properly.
Crossfit FUCKS up my knees.
So I am biased but does doing a million of the same thing kinda hurt your tendons or joints a bit? I mean doing 100 body weight squats in a row is brutal.
I used to do 300 squats in a row no problem. I knew a guy would do 500 no problem. Is your form correct? Are you squatting thighs above parallel? That puts pressure on your knees. Weight should be on your heels, knees tracking over your toes' go down until top of thighs parallel or ass to grass. Google crossfit air squat instuctions for better instructions. Or maybe you just have bad knees. Not crossfit's fault. Here's the squat technique article. It's free.

And no doing those exercises over and over never fucked me over.
When I started doing crossfit I cut the workouts AT LEAST in half. Then built up from there. I only got a couple minor injuries the same as lifting weights the regular way. When I started it was after years of eating junk food, smoking weed, cigarettes, drinking cough syrup, drinking every day, doing perscription meds when I had them, And occasionally doing speed. And you know what? I did just fine. I like working so hard I puke.
