Your Guys' Thoughts/Opinions on Morality
Been interested in this for a while and have yet to formulate my thoughts on it fully BUT...what do you guys think of morality? Do you believe it is inherent in human nature or a social construct taught?
I've run into a lot of atheists as well as atheist friends and professional psychologists who believe it is socially constructed but I personally don't think that's the case. It's interesting if we look at civilizations throughout history how they all shaped to function relatively similarly when it came to basic morals such as murder, theft, telling the truth etc.
Obviously, the more complex shit changes such as womens' rights and slavery and what not but I'm talking the basics.
I don't know shit about this topic but I don't think it's that black and white.
Humans and animals help each other for seemingly no reason in certain situations. Eg. a bear saved a bird from the water in a zoo. or babies hugged each other and their health drastically improved (it can be driven by their need for touch thou, so probably not the best example).
Humans are obviously highly dependent on each other, which is in our biology, inherently. So imo there should be a couple of things already that can be related to morality and aren't socially constructed. The lack of immorality helps us survive at least.
The difference between animals and humans is greatly by our ability to self-reflect and to have real feelings. Imo both of these contribute to massive new layers of morality. That's where judging, labeling things as right or wrong and ego come into play. So this brings more immorality you mentioned like lying and killing even though inherently it would be less in us.

Exactly. Morality plus a big part in being able to create highly functional economies and civilizations that can be productive.
Has to be something that's standardized as you scale or shit breaks and nothing can get done.
That reply from superb was one of the biggest piles of bullshit I've ever seen. I couldn't let that stick around I deleted it. He's also blocked from the forum. I've been doing a bit of a write-up to attempt to set that guy straight, but at the same time you have to know when to draw the line as well as know when someone's too locked into their own twisted machinations.

awww I’m too late, I missed it!!!
lol I hadn't read anything he'd posted in a while. Kinda just skipped over it
To be fair, he was kind of a sociopath
^^Yo I had that same thought and was talking about it with MW the other day. Apparently he isn’t, just super set in his ways. Toxic nonetheless.
I totally forgot about what Superb said and I’m positive I missed a lot of it. Either way it was retarded but I do remember myself agreeing with it in a capacity aKA, i’m also retarded and don’t understand the topic really.
So some morality is inherent based off our biology but it evolves as we evolve. Its necessary to have as it helps us advance civilization. In essence, giving us a frame work.
?

To be honest man i got nothing lol - I wrote something about fairness and justice but babies can't be just that has no rationale to it haha
Anything else? Throw it out there.
Idk really. So I’m guessing morality is socially constructed and I’m still clinging on to 72 virgins in paradise lol!
Kidding I left religion a long time ago.
